Description:

This proposal aims to foster an international collaboration between Oregon State University (OSU), the Universidad de Vigo (UVigo) and the Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas (IIM – also in Vigo), to address pressing issues at the intersection of climate change, freshwater and coastal ecosystems, and fisheries resources. The intention is to establish various collaborations in research, teaching, outreach and community engagement with emphasis on solutions that support sustainable management of aquatic resources.

Description:

Dr. Robyn Tanguay, Dr. Alexander Kwarteng, and their team will study the impact of illegal mining in Ghana by tracking pollutants, modeling their spread, and looking at their effects on human and animal health. They will also use zebrafish to test the toxicity of these pollutants.

Description:

Dr. Serkan Ates and several faculty from the College of Agricultural Sciences will engage with colleagues and officials in Turkey.  This collaborative project will focus on agricultural resilience, exploring three key areas of mutual interest: sustainable dairy farming, industrial hemp production, and agrivoltaic systems. Dr. Ates and others will engage with Turkish institutions, including the Hemp Research Institute of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, and the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM).

Minimizing Conflicts Between Dolphins and Artisanal Fishers in Jamaica

Description:

Dr. Mauricio Cantor and Christine O’Sullivan will monitor dolphin behavior underwater, engage with Jamaican fishers and understand ways to minimize dolphin-fisheries interactions to reduce population threats and harm. 

 

Genes in the Jungle: Bringing Cutting Edge Genomics to the Maya Biosphere Reserve in Guatemala

Description:

This collaboration between Dr. Levi’s Lab and the Wildlife Conservation Society is to bring genetic sequencing and amplification technologies to the Maya Biosphere Reserve in Guatemala to do in situ analyses of critical species and include the research in their “Genes in the Jungle” field course for Guatemalan and OSU students.
