SACNAS

Oregon State University’s Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Chapter is one of 135 Chapters across the nation and one of the largest and strongest Chapters in Oregon, having won two National awards for leadership development and community engagement in 2015 and 2018.

This year the annual National Diversity in STEM (NDiSTEM) Conference is scheduled for Oct. 26-28 in Portland, OR and there are many ways to serve and help OSU SACNAS reach its goals to grow membership at OSU, and in our region as we strive to help develop and grow new Chapters at schools from around the area.

Ways OSU faculty can get involved with SACNAS:

Serve as a mentor

The SACNAS MAS (Mentor Activation for Students) Program gives students more. The MAS Program allows students at all academic levels to connect with professionals from various sectors, STEM disciplines, and areas of the country to develop professional relationships for their academic and long-term success. SACNAS Mentors— who once were in the same shoes as their mentees— will share lifetime experiences and provide one-on-one mentoring for students to reach their full potential in their academic and professional careers in STEM.

Submit a SACNAS session proposal

There are two types of sessions planned for the conference: STEM Symposia and Professional Development. Please consider submitting a session to share your expertise with a diverse, multidisciplinary audience in a meaningful way.

Volunteer your time

Volunteer time to review student travel scholarships or research abstract submissions before or during the conference. Or be a mentor judge or join Conversations with Scientists to speak with students.
