College of Agricultural Sciences Award for Excellence in Extension Education

PURPOSE

To recognize the achievement of excellence by agricultural Extension agents and specialists who have contributed significantly in helping Oregonians resolve difficult problems through extended educational programs.

NATURE

The announcement of the award recipient will be made at the College of Agricultural Sciences' Faculty and Staff Luncheon where the recipient will receive $1,000 and a plaque. The award will be given on a three-year rotation between agents and specialists; two years to agents and the third to a specialist.  Note: 2020 was year three in the rotation.

ELIGIBILITY

Nominees must currently be employed as Extension Faculty whose primary area of subject-matter responsibility is agricultural sciences and natural resources. The recipient must also have an academic home in one of the College of Agricultural Sciences' Departments.

CRITERIA

Nominations will be evaluated on the conduct of significant educational programs, the use of effective educational methods, and measurable results achieved.

NOMINATIONS:

Nominations should be coordinated through the respective department of the administrative unit and include examples of how the nominee excels in the categories listed above. Complete nomination packets (.pdf format) should be emailed to Meghan Heineman at meghan.heineman@oregonstate.edu by 5:00 pm on the due date (TBD). Note: We have not established awards deadlines for 2022 yet. The Faculty and Staff Awards event, usually held in February, is most likely moving to early June with an approximate deadline for nominations in late March.

 

Nomination Materials:
  1. NEW - Nominations must include a one-paragraph summary of the awardee’s biography, specific to this award. This paragraph will be used as a script to be read by the Presenter during the awards ceremony and should be 250 words, maximum
  2. Nomination letter consisting of no more than two pages, double-spaced, summarizing the major contributions of the nominee's educational program efforts and the impact on Oregonians
  3. A professional resume including position description, FTE assignment, and evidence of successful program
  4. No more than five supporting letters from colleagues and clients
         -Year-one (agent) nominations may be resubmitted in year two, with an updated summary, nomination letter, and resume.

The College of Agricultural Sciences' Awards Committee will select the award winners. This committee is composed of CAS faculty and staff.
