The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Art About Agriculture welcomes back Tallmadge Doyle to Strand Gallery. Tidewater features selections from the artist’s latest series, Underwater Garden and High Tides Rising, as well as pieces from the artist’s Mapping Flight and Amazon series. Inspired by her recent artist residency experience in New Brunswick, Canada, Doyle writes:
“My process involves being present to the bodies of water and land, to absorb the colors, smells, sounds, and light qualities of environments rich in geological history. I layer this collected sensory information with both real and imaginary cartographic elements. The resulting imagery is a mapping of sorts, an approach that allows me to combine a current reality with references to geological periods in the distant past and into the projected future of rapid climate change.”
A longtime supporter of OSU College of Agricultural Sciences’ Art About Agriculture program, Tallmadge Doyle has four pieces in the Art About Agriculture Permanent Collection. Seed Pod II, 1992, and Assorted Buds, 1995, received Director of Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station Purchase Awards in 1993 and 1996. Anatomy of a Honey Bee IV, 2000, received the 2001 Paul and Reese Lamb Purchase Award. Giant Pacific Octopus II, 2006, received the 2007 OSU President’s and 2007 Jurors’ Purchase Awards.
Featured art: Tallmadge Doyle, Underwater Garden XXVIII, 2021. Woodcut, line etching, relief print, and India ink hand coloring on paper, 33” x 26”.
