“Carol Riley lives with her husband Michael, a landscape designer, on the north coast of Oregon. A passionate gardener, her studio opens into a small walled garden, the source of inspiration for many paintings. She and her husband often travel to visit gardens in England, France, Italy and Japan.
“Born in Portland, Oregon in 1946, Carol holds a B.A. in painting from Scripps College and a graduate degree from Reed College.
“For thirty years Carol Riley's watercolors have been exhibited in one-woman shows as well as juried and invitational group exhibitions. Throughout her professional career she has had long associations with some of the Northwest's most respected galleries including the Foster/White Gallery in Seattle and the Butters Gallery, Maveety Gallery and Fountain Gallery in Portland. University and public exhibitions include University of Oregon Health Sciences, Oregon State University, Stanford University and the State of Oregon Governor's Office. Her work is represented in private, public and corporate collections among which are the City of Portland "Visual Chronicle", the Portland Art Museum Gilkey Collection, State of Oregon 1% for the Arts purchases, St. Louis University, Willamette University, Kaiser Hospital, Delta Airlines and Daniel Smith Artist's Materials.”
“Carol's images have been used as book covers and illustrations, reproduced for educational materials, event posters, the program cover for the Oregon Symphony, greeting cards, "In Praise of Women Artists" calendars, as software, and once as the cover of Reader's Digest Magazine.
“For twenty-five years Carol taught workshops at the non-profit Sitka Center for Art and Ecology on the central Oregon coast and now serves on their Board of Directors.”
